The Warden
The Warden
I was instantly hooked by the story in just the first few pages. It was so compelling I couldn't put it down. The story feels exactly how the genesis of a superhero ought to be - and it was done well. It feels nostalgic, yet fresh. The illustrations are superb. I cannot wait to see what is next in store for the Warden and its universe!
Can’t recommend the work at IronClad Comics
enough.
In an hour of darkness light will rise from the most unexpected of places. Their superheroes reflect this truth.
Epic stories. Epic heroes.
The Warden is a breath of fresh air in the world of comics. It hooks you very well and leaves your eyes hungry for what’s next. Its unapologetic ties to religion and Christianity are unparalleled in modern comics. Can't wait for Part 2!
Part Batman, part Punisher; part Superman, part that man we all wish we could be--The Warden is the hero we need AND the one Detroit deserves!
With The Warden, the dudes over at Ironclad Comics are clearly off and running on their quest to cook up the next batch of superheroes for the post-modern hell-hole the world finds itself in. Although set 20 years in the past, comic readers will quickly recognize The Warden staring down many of the same societal struggles they face in their own lives--crimes of unspeakable horror, gut-wrenching questions of personal identity, and the search for some way to carve out meaning in life. The Warden is equipped with the jaw-line, punching power, and raw beauty to deliver a foundational story for the Ironclad Universe. The pages flow effortlessly, the restrained aesthetic of the artwork spits in the face of A.I. fakery, and the physical craftsmanship of the novel itself will hold up splendidly over the many re-readings that The Warden will undoubtedly receive. Buckle up--The Warden is climbing into the comic book ring!
I got this through Kickstarter and was very surprised. Really gritty story and a great introduction to the characters. There are a lot of ways this can go and I'm along for the ride! Highly recommended!
Henry Hunt, a prison guard born with extraordinary abilities leads a life of purposelessness and mediocrity, tortured by the very abilities he possesses. However, he is finally fed up with this half-life and decides to take control, to make his city a better place, using his abilities for good. He dawns a costume and becomes the elusive vigilante known as The Warden. Henry’s problems are not solved though as he is pursued by an ambitious reporter anxious to make a name for himself as well as a police detective wanting to bring him to justice. Things get even worse for our vigilante has two mysterious agents from an unknown organization come into the mix that will stop at nothing to bring him down. Can Henry prove to a cynical world that he is the hero he claims, can someone so truly selfless and righteous truly exist, and can society accept him?
